About my paintings

Why abstraction?

My interest in abtract art dates from a 6th grade are class, and I have been hooked ever since.  I got to abstract expressionism through an episode of the PBS series American Masters detailing the art of Helen Frankenthaler.

Of course: Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauchenberg, Paul Jenkins, Robert Irwin, Frank Stella, Willem de Koonig, Mark Tobey, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, and Fritz Kline.

Other influences

My interests in music (jazz, rock, blues and modern classical) and science (complexity and chaos theory) also influence my approach to painting. though in a somewhat more indirect way.

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso

Every good painter paints what he is.” Jackson Pollock
